Before you throw me down a cliff because of places like Be Our Guest, Cinderella’s Royal Table and Crystal Palace hear me out.  Although I love all aforementioned locations there is something so unique and value driven about Skipper Canteen.  Here are some of the top 3 reasons you should try Skipper Canteen out on your next trip.

1.) Explorer Skipper Theme: This place is perfect for any Jungle Cruise fan.  Now if you’re not a fan of the Jungle Cruise that’s cool…I get the appeal of princesses being the father of 2 girls.  The theme consists of 3 rooms, with different experiences. The Skipper Crew Mess is more of a communal cafeteria for the skippers.  It’s large open air layout with immense ceiling height and windows everywhere is a sight to see.  The S.E.A. (Society of Explorers and Adventurers) Room is my favorite.  It’s a secret room behind a bookcase (filled with funny pun book titles) filled with fun artifacts from the SEA Club.  The Butterfly booth hold over 50 different species of Butterflies and there is an amazing painting of Albert Falls standing in front of the Root Canal Tunnel on the WDW version of the ride.  The last room is the Falls Family Parlor filled with Froot Loops bird chandeliers and a mini model of a skipper boat.

2.) Clean, Quiet, Bathroom: Is it weird to put a bathroom as the second best reason before food?  Idk have you used the bathroom between Frontierland and Adventureland?  If so you’ll know why this is valuable.  There are bathrooms within the restaurant themselves and they are kind of tucked in the back which means less foot traffic.  A plus are the old SEA Newspapers hanging on the walls.  The articles are hysterical.  Usually something about Skipper boats going missing and the company being in De-Nile of losing a shipment.  It’s clean and hardly used.  Huge plus in the Magic Kingdom.

3.) Exceptional Food: This place doesn’t pull any punches.  If you love flavor…wham the Perkins Noodles with give you a nice balance of curry and capsaicin kick.  Love meat? The Hardy Char Char Sui Pork is delicious, slightly fatty, rich and tons of Chinese bbq hoisin umami vibes. They have a whole fried sustainable fish for the truly adventurous.  It comes with it’s head on! Big Yikes. The desserts are delicious too! My personal favorite being the chocolate, banana, coffee crusted cake called the Kungaloosh.  Also the ritual drinking call of the SEA Club members. This is’t Tony’s Town Square.  So check your Olive Garden at the door.  Explore some flavors that are super afforable (Disney pricing $25 entrees vs $75+ anywhere else besides the Plaza)

Seriously, I love this place.  Prolly because I’m a Skipper at heart or a Haunted Mansion Butler.
